New MBA Program

As some of you know, I moonlight as an instructor of Information Systems for the Florida Institute of Technology (http://www.fit.edu/orlando). They have a large offering of online degree programs, and I am lucky enough to be able to tech a course for them. This announcement came across my desk from them and thought it would be a good opportunity to blog about the work I do with that school.

Subject:  New MBA Program

It is my pleasure to announce the availability of a new MBA program which will supplant the current PMBA program effective Summer 2010. The purpose of this change is to provide common degree programs among the Melbourne campus and branch sites.  The curricula are very similar but there are structural differences that may be important.  These are explained in the enclosed descriptive material for the MBA program.

Among the Similarities:

  • Program delivery will continue using live instruction by our talented faculty.
  • The MBA degree has a 36 credit hour requirement
  • There is a cross reference between core courses in the MBA and existing PMBA courses so that there is no duplication required by the program shift and there is interchangeability between equivalent courses for an interim period.  See the enclosed MBA description for course specifics.
  • Electives in the PMBA or core courses required in the PMBA but not required in the MBA will be counted as electives in the MBA.

Among the changes:

  • GMAT scores are no longer prerequisite for admission.
  • Mandatory Foundation Courses replace the program prerequisites previously evaluated on a case by case basis.

Existing PMBA students will have until May 2013 to complete their program as PMBA candidates without any requirement for change in their program plan. All normally scheduled PMBA courses will continue to be offered as needed during this period, either directly or via BUS course equivalent.  It may be necessary to dual list specific courses i.e. MGT XXXX / BUS XXXX in order to consolidate offerings where current PMBA students are taking courses with new MBA students.  Teaching authorization for MGT courses will grandfather instructors in equivalent BUS courses.  Thus, although there are details yet to be resolved, there should be no major impact on Orlando faculty.

We look forward to enlarged possibilities for growth as this new program expands our ability to serve a broader audience with faculty experienced in area business and industry.  We appreciate the role you have played in our success and are excited about mutually beneficial prospects for the future.
